Garden wedding lunch – A reunion of old friends

It’s always a pleasure to welcome back old friends – personal friends and friends of the spice gardens – all friends! Adelena Chong was one of the first friends of the gardens who celebrated her brithday here with us about 6 years ago and I remember it ended with Cherie dancing on our table tops! It was a magical night as always and it was great pleasure to welcome Adelena back as a guest of a wedding lunch. It wasn’t too long ago that Adelena joined our morning deck yoga class. And may I add you looked stunning last Sunday!

And I also welcomed another old friend, Joie Koo. The male guest of honour for the day with his adoring bride, Doris. Joie and I were in Aida’s contemporary dance class when I first returned from the UK and I must say, Joie hasn’t aged or changed one bit. Same physique, same hair do, same everything – the only difference is his the tone of his glasses has gone one shade darker I believe.

In 2007, I also had the pleasure of inviting Joie and other dancers to Tropical Spice Garden for World Dance Day where they performed an outdoor improvised piece in the gardens mostly at the Bamboo Garden.

But today, we welcomed him back not to sweat in some contorted position but as special groom to his love of many years and great theatre supporter, Doris at this specially arranged garden wedding lunch.

The garden party was thrown by their colleagues from Lifework in life giving shades of blue, white and silver. Even the cake was dressed to the ocassion suitably and of course the guests did well to comply with the dress code rules. The gathering was of 17 people including Jennifer, who established Lifeworks – a little centre on Jalan Brother James, I believe, who practice inner healing, yoga sessions, channeling and self-starting courses. Correct me if I’m wrong guys!

We prepared a wonderful spread of thyme and rosemary roast chicken, a selection of freshly baked bread and a cheeseboard, tomato & mint salad and coriander pesto linguine and a overflow of nutmeg juice.

A fabulous afternoon it had been with a glorious reunion of old and new faces. Garden anniversary celebration anyone?

  1. Hi Kat! It was a wonderful lunch party at Spice Garden! Believe it or not Spice Garden was in the list during my wedding dinner preparation as I love the place a lot! But too bad that I had more than 250 guests so it was not possible to hold my wedding dinner there. Somehow the “demand” has been fulfilled, thanks to the Lifeworkers. :) Doris and I finally had the chance to have our wedding party at Spice Garden!

Wonderful arrangement, wonderful staffs, wonderful environment, wonderful food, wonderful everything!

By the way, you also haven’t aged or changed one bit. I think my hair was longer during out first met. Now my hair is way shorter. :P

  2. thanks for keeping us in mind Joie and thanks for the photos. I still havent personally seen them but as it turns out I think we needed more wide angle shots and less close ups. im sure they’re beautiful when I finally do get to see them. Happy holidays and happy ever after! :)
